Mother's Day - your mother's day

The second Sunday in May is Mother's Day. But why do we actually celebrate Mother's Day? The answer may seem obvious: it is, after all, a tribute to the most important woman in our lives. But how did the tradition come about? Yes, the idea caught on with American Anna Jarvis' desire to honor her mother's humanitarian work during the American Civil War. In 1914, Mother's Day, the second Sunday in May, became an official flag day in the United States. The idea of honoring one's mother spread internationally, and eventually also landed in Denmark.
