Amaryllis - the queen of Christmas flowers

Not without reason is the amaryllis called the queen of Christmas flowers. Visit a flower shop before Christmas, and you'll likely see plenty of amaryllis. Because so many decorators love this flower with such impressive floral splendor, we are starting to see many more varieties than the white and red ones we are used to here in Denmark. And in new and exciting combinations. We look forward to showing you.

Amaryllis + thistles = truly lovely

Isn't this a great combination? Elegant amaryllis, carefree thistles, wax flowers, and eucalyptus. We fell head over heels! How to style it? Well, here you'll see.

In this bouquet, the stems are quite long. Therefore, it's nice to use a vase with a heavy base. For just amaryllis, a glass vase is lovely. It highlights the long stems of the amaryllis adding extra texture. A glass vase works well here too! Yes, even for an amaryllis bouquet with short stems cut.

How to give amaryllis a long and good life

Make sure to always use a sparkling clean vase. Remember to add flower food. (Alternatively, you can use 1 tsp sugar, 2 tsp lemon juice, and 1 tsp chlorine in lukewarm water. Why? Sugar provides nutrients, chlorine prevents bacterial growth, and lemon juice regulates the pH value in the water.)
The water should now reach halfway up the stem.

Enhance the flower by inserting a floral stick into the hollow stem.

Change the water twice a week. Another clever tip, take the time to wash the vase. This removes bacteria that can clog the stems and hinder nutrient absorption.

Over time, the stems will start to split and curl. If you trim the amaryllis each time you change the water, you'll also extend the lifespan of the flowers.

When the flowers start to wither, you can pinch them off so you can enjoy the other blossoms.

A good tip is to place the flowers in a cool place overnight. Just make sure the temperature doesn't drop below freezing.

Amaryllis shedding

Are you one of those who are skeptical of lilies because they shed? Even though amaryllis doesn't shed as much, you can use this tip for both amaryllis and lilies:

Trim the pollen buttons. This prevents anyone from touching them, preventing shedding and creating a mess.
