Dahlias are beloved flowers, especially as garden plants, but also as cut flowers in late summer and autumn.

How to care for your dahlias

Remove leaves from the stem to prevent them from entering the water. Bacteria that accelerate the decomposition process can form when leaves are submerged in water.

Give the stem a fresh cut before placing it in water so that the flower can absorb water effectively.

A trick you can use is to place the stems in almost boiling water for an hour first. This is said to extend the longevity of dahlias.

Then place them in cold water with flower food. Feel free to change the water every day, so you can enjoy your dahlias for an extended period

How to plant dahlias in a pot:

Use a plastic bucket or a pot with drainage holes, preferably 20 liters.

Fill the pot with potting soil and plant the tuber 10 cm below the soil surface. March-April is a good time to bring the tubers to life.

Place your dahlia in a bright and cool location.

Water sparingly until green shoots begin to emerge from the soil. Once your potted dahlia starts growing, it's important to water regularly, as they don't like to dry out. Additionally, there is a greater risk of powdery mildew if potted plants are allowed to dry out repeatedly.
